The many uses of photo calendars

Posted May 28, 2012 at 9:22 am under Photo Calendars

If you’re looking for something novel to do with your pictures, you might want to consider investing in personalised photo calendars. These items can look superb and they’re the perfect way to celebrate snaps.

Meanwhile, the finished products can serve variety of purposes. For example, you might want to hang them in your home or office as a decoration and to help you keep control of your schedule. Alternatively, they make superb gifts for loved ones.

Photo printing for a good cause

Another use of these personalised calendars was recently demonstrated by a group of women in Norwich. Mums Bev Andrews, Kim Balding and Mandy Jenner teamed up to raise money for charity with the aid of one of these creations.

According to a report in the Norwich Evening News, the trio were snapped a series of pictures, ranging from poses with a Harley Davison motorbike to shots of them in their ball gowns. They also included some more risky pictures taken of them in their bikinis.

The photo session, which was completed within a day, was managed by Cromer photographer Andreas Yiasimi and a total of 200 calendars were printed off.

Cash for calendars

Thanks to their efforts, a total of £1,100 was generated for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which is an organisation that funds special trips for children with life-threatening conditions.

Commenting on the donation, Make-a-Wish’s national community fundraising manager Sarah Shearman said: “We are thrilled with the amount of money that the Norfolk Country Roses 2012 calendar has raised and can’t thank Bev, Kim and Mandy enough.”

Selecting the perfect images

If you’re considering using online photo printing to create a calendar, you’ll have to think about which images to use.

Often, people choose to theme their snaps depending on the months of the calendar they’ll appear on. For example, if you’re compiling a collection of images of family members, you might want to select snaps taken on summer holidays to appear on the June, July and August pages.

On the other hand, images featuring snow and ice could be perfect for the winter months.

Complete freedom

The great thing is, there are no rules when it comes to choosing your pictures. You have total authorship over the creation and, when you get to see the finished product, you should be thrilled.

Here at Photoworld we are experts when it comes to calendars. Using our website, you can select A4, A3 or A2 versions and you can also take your pick between traditional calendars, wall calendars and kitchen calendars. Impressive wildlife snaps make perfect canvas prints

Posted May 21, 2012 at 9:19 am under Canvas Printing

If you capture the perfect image on your camera, you might feel proud of yourself. Taking superb snaps requires an artistic eye, as well as the ability to make sure you’re in the right place at the right time. For example, choosing your time of day carefully is crucial for outdoor images as the light quality varies dramatically. Meanwhile, if you’re keen to get wildlife shots, it’s important to know where to position yourself.

Once you’ve got the image you’re looking for, you might want to show it off in style. After all, it’d be a waste to leave it on a memory stick only to be viewed occasionally on screen.

This is where canvas prints come into their own. These creations are the ideal way to showcase impressive snaps. There is something dramatic about the way they stand out in sharp relief from the walls on which they hang and they make a real impact on viewers.

Pictures worth celebrating

One man who has taken plenty of pictures worthy of online photo printing is expert in the field Dale Morris. A recent article in the sun detailed some of his best wildlife pictures.

He spent seven years travelling around southern Africa taking images of animals including scorpions, ostriches, lions and elephants.

One of his most intriguing snaps features a warthog. The close-up, which was taken at the South Luangwa national park in Zambia, was the result of a chance encounter. According to Mr Morris, the beast had been released into the wild after being reared by conservationists and it was still tame enough to approach the camera.

However, it seems the 40-year-old photographer may have had a lucky escape. Commenting on the warthog’s behaviour, he said: “After spending ten minutes taking very close-up photos of this warthog, he began to dribble and make a strange ‘chuff-chuffing’ sound. My guide told me this was the sound that warthogs make before they start mating.”

Other impressive photos taken by the enthusiast include one of a flock of ostriches launching in Oudtshoorn, South Africa and a young male lion in Zambia’s Liuwa Plain National Park.

Choosing the perfect canvas

Of course, your pictures don’t have to be as dramatic as Mr Morris’. Great looking images can be taken in virtually any location and there are plenty of wild animals around waiting to be captured on camera.

The important thing once you’ve decided which images to use is to ensure they’re displayed in style.

Here at Photoworld we offer superb canvas printing services and can help ensure your snaps look fabulous. You can take your pick from a range of different sizes of canvas and all you have to do is upload the pictures you’ve chosen and let us do the rest.

Sizes range from 20x30cm to 90x130cm and you might want to take into account the place where you intend to hang the image once it arrives in the post to help you decide what’s best for you. Also, your budget may be an important factor.

Photo books can make fab wedding presents

Posted May 16, 2012 at 9:15 am under Photo books

Choosing wedding gifts can be a nightmare and, like many people, you might struggle to come up with inspiration for items. Unless the couple tying the knot has provided an official list, it can be difficult to know what they already have and what others are buying them.

This can be frustrating. After all, you’ll be spending your hard-earned money on the products, so you don’t want them to be unappreciated or go to waste.

This is where personalised photo books come into their own. These creations are thoughtful and they’re the perfect offering for newlyweds.

Avoid wedding gift gaffes

Sadly, many of the items consumers buy for their friends and family members to celebrate their weddings are unwanted, new research has shown.

According to the Saint Lucia Tourist Board, a total of around £4 billion is spent on nuptial offerings every year, but around £118 million is wasted on unwanted gifts. More than half of newlyweds (55 per cent) admitted they did not like the gifts they received, with one in three grooms selling, exchanging or giving away their unwanted presents.

Among the top ten wedding gifts most likely to be sold on were ornaments, glassware and cushions.

Expectations are high

Despite these gift faux pas, the expectations of couples when it comes to the presents they receive are high, the study found.

Whereas two-thirds of couples in their 60s who married 30 to 40 years ago did not anticipate getting any gifts, couples tying the knot these days are far more demanding, with just one in three suggesting they do not want to be handed offerings in honour of their big days.

Choosing what to put in your photo books

If you decide to go ahead and purchase special photo books as gifts to hand over to couples on their big days, you’ll need to choose the perfect images to go in them.

A great approach is to use snaps of the couple throughout their relationship, showing how close they have grown over the years. The loved up pair will be taken on a trip down memory lane when they thumb through these creations.

Unlike more generic products that can simply be pulled off the shelves, these personalised presents show real thought and consideration and they’re bound to be well received.

No need to break the bank

Another advantage associated with sourcing photo books online like this is their price. Unlike many of the products people hand over on wedding days, these items are inexpensive.

Here at Photoworld we offer an array of different book styles that could be perfect for you and you needn’t even break £10 in order to get your hands on them. This may be welcome news. After all, attending weddings isn’t cheap. As well as gifts, you might have to pay for transport and accommodation and, depending on how well-stocked your wardrobe is, you may even need a whole new outfit.

Photo printing can jazz up home offices

Posted May 9, 2012 at 9:11 am under Photo Prints

If you work from home, either all the time or occasionally, you’re by no means alone. These days, more and more people are doing this. After all, it can save employers money and it can also help people to achieve a better work-life balance by eliminating commutes and providing greater flexibility.

To help ensure you’re home office looks the part, you might want to invest in some new items and online photo printing can open up a world of possibilities.

For example, to help cheer you up while you’re at your desk, you could order special mouse mats with images of your loved ones on them, or pictures of your favour locations. Other options include personalised wall calendars, canvases and posters. You could even get mugs complete with your chosen images on.

Items to focus on in home offices

Writing in the Independent recently, Kate Burt said that “pleasing visual stimulation” is a must in home-based working environments. Thankfully, these days it’s easier than ever to get superb calendars, canvases, posters and so on.

Of course, as well as having the perfect visual aids when you’re working from home, it’s also important to have all the practical items you need.

The writer stated: “At the very minimum, a productive, comfortable workspace needs some sort of desk area, good lighting, storage and a chair that won’t give your back any jip. Ideally, you’ll also have a landline.”

She went on to recommend working as far away from kitchens as possible, commenting: “Sinks full of distracting dirty dishes, empty domestic appliances and food are a quick path to hearty procrastination.”

The personal touch

When you’re choosing items for your workspace, you might benefit from selecting things that have a personal touch, Ms Burt suggested.

She commented: “Colour and personality is important in a space you’ll spend all day in: family photographs, nice postcards and things that make you laugh will keep you feeling perky.”

If your office is part of another room, you might even benefit from creating a portable collage on a pinboard, she advised. This can simply be propped against the wall when you get to your desk.

Boards like this could be perfect for sticking photo wall calendars and other such items to.

Creating photo prints is simple

As long as you know where to look when you’re on the hunt for photo printing services, you should find the process easy. Here at Photoworld we go out of our way to ensure that getting the perfect products is quick and simple.

All you have to do is select the type of item you want and then upload the images you intend to print. Once you’ve completed this, you just place your order and wait for the items to arrive at your doorstep. To find out more, take a look around our website.

Before you know it, your working environment could be transformed into something bright and inspiring, which in turn should help you to get on with your tasks in the right frame of mind.

Immortalising summer holidays with photo printing

Posted May 3, 2012 at 9:06 am under Photo printing

It’s coming up to that time of year again. Like many people, you might be preparing to pack your bags and head off on your summer holidays. There’s nothing better than getting away from it all for a week or two, and depending on where you’re planning to travel to, you might well be in for some much-needed sunshine.

To help you preserve your experiences abroad for posterity, you may want to make the most of the impressive selection of online photo printing services now available.

Vacations are back in fashion

When you set of on your adventures, camera in tow, you can rest assured you won’t be alone. Plenty of Brits will be jetting off on trips overseas.

According to figures produced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the number of UK consumers travelling abroad returned to growth last year, ending a four-year decline.

Also, it noted that UK residents made 3.3 million trips abroad in February this year, which was up on the same month in 2011, while spending on these adventures reached £3.78 billion during the first two months of 2012.

Commenting on the findings, the ONS’s Stephen D’Alfonso said: “Despite shaky consumer confidence and continued economic gloom, the British holiday market showed its resilience in 2011 as the estimated number of holidays taken remained broadly in line with 2010 figures.”

Snaps that celebrate your trips

The only problem with holidays is the fact they have to come to an end. This can be a depressing feeling. No doubt the last thing you want to do while sunning yourself on a foreign beach, exploring new cities and so on is start thinking about your return journey.

However, by making sure you take plenty of pictures while you’re away, you can ensure you’ll have a bank of memories to draw on when you return to normal life.

These days, you can transform these images into fantastic items using digital photo printing services like the ones we offer here at Photoworld. This is the perfect way to prolong your enjoyment.

Canvases can be ideal

One of the most dramatic and visually impressive ways to display the snaps you take is to get them printed on canvas. You can hang these images around your home or in your office and they’re bound to bring a smile to your face when you see them.

Whether you opt to use pictures including you and your fellow holidaymakers or choose landscape shots is entirely up to you.

Other options

Of course, canvases are not the only options. You might instead opt to order photo books. These can easily be stored in drawers and shelves and, when you fancy cheering yourself up from time to time, you can take the items out and thumb through them, recalling your trip as you do.

You can also choose to get your pictures printed on posters, calendars, stationary, mugs and many other items. There’s a world of choice out there.
